That's because this kind of software, besides being very expensive, it was also very difficult to master by beginners. Not to mention the large amount of system resources demanded by this kind of applications. But, as the time passed and technology evolved, audio editing became something for everyone and dedicated programs kept on launching. Still, a lot of them don't have the functionality demanded by most users and are still not polished enough to work seamlessly. Still, there are applications that have all a user may need and one of them is GoldWave. It's an audio editing tool that can manipulate an audio file in any way possible, helping the user create the perfect sound. The installation process of GoldWave is wizard based and doesn't pose problems, even for beginners. Every version of Microsoft Windows is supported by the program. System resources are surprisingly low for this kind of application, thus even older computers can support GoldWave . The interface, despite the fact that it looks a bit crowded, has all its options well organized and easy to reach and access. For the program to do its job, the user just needs to load a desired audio file. GoldWave supports a wide range of audio formats, ranging from WAV to FLAC, exceeding by far the formats supported by other similar programs. After loading the audio file, the user can modify it as his heart desires. He can apply various effects to the entire song or only to a selection of it, he can trim or cut a part of the track or can mix two tracks together, creating a brand new song. Besides offering the possibility of editing and applying effects to audio files, GoldWave also includes some extra tools, like an audio CD ripper, speech converter and file merger, for uniting more audio files as one. After the user finishes the editing process, he can save his creation in one of the many supported audio formats. Each one of them allows choosing different parameters for the sound quality. Pros: It supports a wide range of audio formats. It can also apply different and interesting effects to audio files. Besides that, it includes some extra utilities, like a CD ripper and a speech converter. Cons: Even though the number of features is high, advanced users may still want something more complex.
